Falmouth is a historic, picturesque port full of places to visit and things to do. There are regular events and festivals throughout the year, and there are three beautiful, safe sandy beaches within easy reach of Pendra Loweth.
If you want to be inspired or if it's a rainy day you could visit a local attraction such as the new National Maritime Museum Cornwall that perches on the edge of the harbour and has a fascinating tidal gallery that is submerged at high water. Seafood is a speciality in Falmouth and there are many fine restaurants and pubs of all types. In short, Falmouth has a great deal to offer the whole family whatever the weather.
Within a short distance of Pendra Loweth, there are excellent watersports facilities of almost every kind including sailing, fishing and diving to name but a few. If you fancy learning new watersports then expert tuition is never far away. As well as swimming outdoors, you can swim at the 'Ships and Castles' indoor leisure pool or play golf at one of the local courses.
Swanpool Beach
Less than a mile from Pendra Loweth is the beautiful Swanpool beach and nature reserver. The beach has a cafe, there is the Three Mackerel restaurant with a fantastic terrace, beach shop, changing rooms and mini-golf. The beach is adjacent to one of the eleven most important brackish lagoons in Britain. Few people know that this is the only place in Britain where a fascinating marine species called trembling sea-mat can be found.
Maenporth Beach
This secluded beach, a short walk from Pendra Loweth, offers a beautiful place to relax and enjoy your holiday. There is a beach cafe that serves food and drinks. There is also a range of marine activities including diving or kayaking. There is also a SeaSquirts experience where children can learn about and discover marine life in rockpools and shallow waters.
Gyllyngvase Beach
Right in the port of Falmouth, Gyllyngvase Beach is one of the jewels in the crown of the port. Overlooked by Pendennis Castle and with a long promenade and beach cafe and facilities, this is one of the most inviting beaches in Cornwall.
